Mentoring & Coaching

Mentoring is an opportunity to look more closely at yourself in order to work towards career goals, identifying career issues and opportunities, and setting into motion what you actually want in making appropriate career choices in the future.  It is a partnership based upon mutual trust and respect.

Definition

“Mentoring is to support and encourage people to manage their own learning in order that they may maximise their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be”.  Eric Parsloe, Oxford School of Coaching & Mentoring

Confidential – no third party disclosure

Mentee driven – you set the pace

Low bureaucracy – based on simple principles that are proven to work

Focussed on you – flexible and focussed on your identified career needs and issues

As a Mentor, I will …

  • ask questions and challenge assumptions;
  • suggest networking opportunities;
  • boost confidence and encourage;
  • offer advice to progress your career;
  • nudge, not nag;
  • help to clarify goals and maintain focus; and
  • provide information and guidance.
As a Mentee, I expect you to …
  • take responsibility for all actions as a result of the mentoring process;
  • focus on what you want and what you can do; and
  • become more self-aware.
